Skin – how to care for it and nurture it properly
Who wouldn't want to maintain that beautiful tan they acquired on vacation? We try to achieve this by visiting a tanning salon, but after just a few days, we notice that our skin becomes dry, thickened, and inelastic. The epidermis begins to peel, and our complexion takes on a grayish hue. On top of that, we discover unpleasant surprises – discoloration, broken capillaries, and moles.
How to keep your skin healthy and beautiful? We turn to cosmetologist Agnieszka Kozłowska .
– The first step in proper skincare is cleansing . Everything on the skin's surface (excess sebum, dead skin cells, dirt, dust, makeup residue) disrupts its balance. Inadequate cleansing or skipping this step promotes bacterial growth, clogged pores, and the formation of blackheads and breakouts.
If there are layers of makeup on the skin, it's best to start this step with micellar water. The micelles contained in the liquid will dissolve makeup, even waterproof makeup. Importantly, don't rub the skin. Simply apply a soaked cotton pad and, after a few minutes, gently remove the pad.
For the next step in cleansing, choose a cleansing product suited to your skin type. Remove makeup using upward, circular motions.
There are a ton of cosmetics available on the market. How do you choose the right one?
– Indeed, the selection is extensive. However, not all cosmetics are effective. Some even cause allergic reactions, leading to redness, peeling, and even swelling of the face.
Especially for dry and sensitive skin, choose a good quality cosmetic. Ideally, it should be a gently cleansing cleansing cream that removes impurities without damaging the natural protective barrier.
For those with combination or oily skin , it's worth using a cleansing gel that intensively cleanses and removes impurities and excess sebum, but doesn't disrupt the skin's natural protective barrier. Lovely cosmetics are undoubtedly a good choice.
Do you need facial toner?
– After cleansing the skin, and after any contact with water, the skin's natural pH is disturbed. This causes the skin to lose its protective barrier against bacteria, fungi, and environmental factors. The goal of toning is to restore the skin's natural, acidic pH. For toning, choose alcohol-free toners that won't dry out the skin or cause irritation. To perform proper toning, moisten a cotton pad with toner, then, without rubbing the skin, apply the toner in an upward, stamping motion.
The second way to apply toner is with a spray. After cleansing, gently moisten the skin with toner.
Is it worth using a facial serum? Isn't just a cream enough?
"A serum is an additional step in skincare. It won't replace a cream, but thanks to its concentrated action and smaller molecules, it can penetrate deeper layers of the skin. A serum contains up to 70% active ingredients that work to improve skin quality. It doesn't have to be used constantly. It's worth undertaking a multi-week treatment several times a year, ideally when your skin needs intensive care, such as after the holidays or winter."
Apply a small amount of serum to cleansed skin, massage until absorbed, and after a few minutes, apply your favorite cream. It's worth reaching for a professional cosmetic that will protect your skin from photoaging and support its natural antioxidant system, such as the serum from Mesoestetic.
Time for cream?
– Properly prepared skin is able to absorb the active ingredients contained in the cream. It's crucial to apply the cream consistently, morning and evening. Day and night creams have different properties.
In addition to its nourishing properties, a day cream also protects the skin from external factors, so it's best to have an SPF. Choose creams with a light consistency that won't weigh down the skin. For dry skin, the cream's primary purpose will be moisturizing and nourishing, while for oily skin, it should moisturize and mattify.
The skin regenerates during sleep, which is why the consistency of night creams is slightly heavier and richer in regenerating and nourishing ingredients.
How to take care of the skin around the eyes?
– When caring for your skin, don't forget about proper care for the eye area. The skin in this area is thinner, so wrinkles appear most quickly. Use creams specifically designed for this area, as facial creams can cause irritation in this area. Specialists in
I encourage you to use intensely moisturizing eye and eyelid creams. They're lightweight, perfectly hydrate, and firm the delicate skin around the eyes. A good anti-wrinkle cream is readily available.
What about peels and masks? Do they have a significant impact on the condition of our skin, and how often should we use them?
– Exfoliation is simply the exfoliation of dead skin cells. This treatment smooths the skin and also unclogs sebaceous glands, preventing the formation of blackheads. Regular exfoliation (1-2 times a week) allows for better penetration of active ingredients contained in skincare products and supports epidermal regeneration, which, stimulated by the exfoliation, accelerates the natural regeneration process.
The type of peel chosen depends on the skin type. For sensitive, vascular skin, an enzymatic peel is recommended, as it doesn't irritate the skin and uses enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells. For normal and combination skin , a mechanical peel containing abrasive particles is ideal . A gently exfoliating toner is ideal for all skin types.
Applying a mask should become a routine. Apply the mask 1-2 times a week, choosing the right one for your skin type.
Only thorough skin care and the selection of appropriate cosmetics will allow you to enjoy healthy, well-groomed skin for longer.
